The story

Mica Galvão was coached from early childhood by his father, Melqui Galvão, entering his first competition at four and training Luta Livre, Brazil's catch wrestling, from the age of ten. He was promoted to black belt at 17 in 2021 and was an immediate contender, reaching the ADCC final at 77 kg in 2022. He won the 2022 IBJJF world title but was stripped of it after testing positive for clomifene; the US Anti-Doping Agency accepted it came from prescribed medication, but he had not requested an exemption and served a one-year suspension. He came back to dominate 2024, winning the Europeans, Pans, Brazilian Nationals, Worlds and ADCC in one season, only the second athlete to do so. BJJ Heroes credits him with 85 submissions in 111 black-belt wins.

Steal this

Copy Mica's choke-to-armbar chain: from back control, threaten the rear-naked choke, and when the opponent two-hand defends, trap the far arm, swing your leg over the head and extend for the armbar.
