The story
rica Wiebe took up wrestling in Grade 9 after seeing a sign for co-ed practice at her high school in Stittsville, Ontario. She went to London 2012 only as Leah Callahan's training partner, then put together a 36-match winning streak in 2014 that included Commonwealth Games gold. At her first Olympics, in Rio in 2016, she beat Zhang Fengliu and Vasilisa Marzaliuk and then shut out Kazakhstan's Guzel Manyurova 6-0 in the 75 kg final, scoring her first points by countering a lift. It was Canada's third Olympic wrestling gold. She won a second Commonwealth title and world bronze in 2018, placed 11th in Tokyo and retired in 2024, moving into broadcasting and a job with the Canadian Olympic Committee.
