The story
fion Davies grew up in Swansea and competed in judo for the Welsh junior team before drifting away from sport as a teenager. She found MMA in 2013, won her first fights by submission, then committed to jiu-jitsu and moved to Dublin to train with Darragh O'Conaill at East Coast Jiu-Jitsu. Promoted to black belt in November 2018, she won the No-Gi World title within weeks. In 2019 she became the first European to win the Brazilian Nationals, and in 2022 she won the IBJJF lightweight world title and ADCC gold at 60 kg, both firsts for a British or Welsh athlete. She retained the world title in 2023 and added a weight-and-absolute double at the No-Gi Worlds. The armbar is her favourite finish; BJJ Heroes counts 14 among her 49 black-belt submissions.

Drill Ffion's armbar from mount: climb high, isolate one arm across the opponent's face, pivot to the side as you swing your leg over the head, and keep their thumb pointing up as you extend.
