The story

Claressa Shields grew up in Flint, Michigan, and was 17 when she won middleweight gold at London 2012, the first Olympics with women's boxing, becoming the first American woman to win Olympic boxing gold. She won again in Rio in 2016, making her the first American boxer with medals at consecutive Games. As a pro she became undisputed middleweight champion in 2019 and undisputed at light middleweight in 2021, the first boxer of the four-belt era to be undisputed in two divisions, and in 2025 she became the first female undisputed heavyweight champion. She has also gone 2-1 in mixed martial arts with the PFL. In August 2026 she stopped Kaye Scott to win back two middleweight belts and move to 19-0.
