The story
eter Aerts began competing in 1985 and was still fighting in 2020, a span that made him the face of K-1's heavyweight era and earned him the name Mr. K-1. The Eindhoven native became The Dutch Lumberjack after chopping down Mark Russell in the first round in 1991, and his right high kick remained his calling card. He won the K-1 World Grand Prix in 1994, 1995 and 1998, the last with a first-round high-kick knockout of Andy Hug. He then reached three more finals, in 2006, 2007 and 2010, the last at age 40, which made him the oldest finalist in the event's history and gave him a record six final appearances. He also held WMTA Muay Thai world titles in 1991 and 1995.
