Muay Thai & Kickboxing

Muay Thai and kickboxing: punches, kicks, knees, elbows and the clinch.

Beginner to CompetitorAll levelsRangeClinch

What it is

Muay Thai uses eight points of contact — two fists, two elbows, two knees, two shins — plus the clinch. Kickboxing removes elbows and most of the clinch. We teach the full Thai toolkit first, then the ruleset-specific versions.

Roundhouse power comes from stepping to the angle and turning the hip fully; contact is the shin, not the foot. Shins are conditioned progressively on the bag, not with gimmicks.

New to Muay Thai?

Start in Striking Fundamentals or the Beginners class. You learn the Thai stance, the teep, the roundhouse and how to check a kick on pads and bags, and no partner hits you before your coach has signed off five basics.

Partner rounds come later: clinch and technical sparring once you are Licensed, hard sparring only for approved members.

You don’t need to be flexible or fit to start. Kicks are taught step by step, and a first class costs $20.

Questions

Kickboxing is Muay Thai without the elbows and with almost no clinch. Muay Thai keeps all eight weapons (fists, elbows, knees and shins) and the clinch. Here you learn the full Thai version first, then how to fight under kickboxing rules.
