Also called Double leg, Double, Blast double
The double-leg takedown drops under the opponent's guard, wraps both legs and drives them to the mat. It is one of the most common takedowns in wrestling and MMA because it works off a fake strike or a level change and ends with you on top. The penetration step is what makes it work.
Satori's coaches are filming every technique, full speed and slow motion from two angles. Until it's up, the diagram shows the movement step by step.
How to do it
- 1Change levels by bending the knees, back straight and head up.
- 2Take a deep penetration step between the opponent's feet, dropping the lead knee to the mat.
- 3Put your head tight against their side and wrap both arms behind their knees.
- 4Bring the rear foot up and drive through them at an angle, not straight up.
- 5Turn the corner or lift, and finish on top in a controlling position.
- Shooting from too far away, so you land short and get sprawled on.
- Bending at the waist and looking down, which puts your neck in a guillotine.
- Stopping after first contact instead of driving your feet.
Safety: Drop the knee softly onto the mat, wear knee pads if needed, and finish takedowns only onto mats with partners who can breakfall.
Drills
Penetration-step lines across the mat, then partner drills at half speed: set up with a jab, change levels, shoot and finish onto a crash mat.
