Also called Fireman's throw, Fireman's lift
The fireman's carry drops under the opponent's arm, takes their thigh and rolls them across your shoulders to the mat. It is fast, scores well when they land on their back, and is hard to see coming because it starts from an ordinary arm tie. It is a staple of freestyle wrestling.
Satori's coaches are filming every technique, full speed and slow motion from two angles. Until it's up, the diagram shows the movement step by step.
How to do it
- 1Control the opponent's wrist or elbow and pull it forward and down.
- 2Drop your level and step in, placing your head under the arm you are pulling.
- 3Reach your other arm between their legs and hook behind their near thigh.
- 4Pull the arm down and lift the leg so they roll across your shoulders.
- 5Turn with them and land chest to chest on top, ready to pin.
- Letting go of the arm, which lets them post a hand and stop the roll.
- Dropping in too far away, so they fall on top of you.
- Throwing them over without turning to follow them down.
Safety: Learn it from the knees first and throw only onto crash mats; partners must be able to breakfall before they are thrown.
Drills
On crash mats, drill the drop step and arm pull against a partner who stays standing; add the full throw only when your coach says the entry is clean.
