The story
ouglas Brose, from Florianópolis, chose karate at eight after watching martial arts films such as Bloodsport and Fist of Fury. A fast, sharp 60 kg fighter, he won world titles in 2010 and 2014, silver in 2012 and bronze in 2008, along with World Games gold in 2009 and Pan American Games gold in Toronto in 2015. A serious knee injury in 2016 led people to tell him to retire. Instead he fought his way back, and at 35 he beat defending champion Angelo Crescenzo 3-0 with a late ippon in Dubai to win a third world title, seven years after his second. A sergeant in the Brazilian Army and a member of the WKF Athletes' Commission, he retired after winning bronze at the 2023 Pan American Games.

Make your kizami-zuki fast and long: push off the back foot, turn the lead shoulder in and let the punch land before the front foot does. From the same stance, slip the opponent's reverse punch and answer with an ura-mawashi.
